What We Believe

Welcome to Laurel Church.

As you spend time with us, you’ll discover that we are all flawed people. You’ll see our good moments and bad moments. You’ll observe Christ’s love working through us as well as our struggles, prejudices, anger, fear, doubt, depression, stubbornness, and self-centeredness. None of us are perfect. We all fall short of God’s rightness.

What we do share together however is our love for Jesus, His forgiveness of our self-centered behaviors and thoughts, and our desire to become the loving person we were meant to be.

You are always welcome to join us on this journey with Jesus Christ. Even if you do not understand what this spiritual life is all about, you are welcome to be involved in the life of our community, get to know some of us, ask any questions, help out helping others, or attend Bible studies and small groups.

If you have any issues you’d like to raise, any questions you might have, or just want to visit, you can contact us anytime.

I hope you experience the loving presence of God in your life.

Robert Cameron,
Pastor

At Laurel Church, we share…

A Common Identity:

     We are …

  • Children of God
  • Citizens of His Kingdom
  • Ambassadors of His Good News

Common Values:

     We value …

  • The Life of every soul
  • Freedom to explore
  • Love for our neighbors and Lord

A Common Goal:

  • To grow in our trust and love for God so as to love each person we meet just as Jesus loves them.

A Common Strategy:

  • In order to connect more deeply with God, we encourage each other to practice five spiritual disciplines:  Worship, Prayer, Study, Service, and Christian Community.
  • These disciplines are not ways to salvation or "brownie points" to earn God's love, but are ways to enhance, understand and grow in our faith and love relationship that we already have through our trusting in Christ as Lord and Savior.

Our Common Mission:

  • The Great Commandment
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.' The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”
    - Mark 12:30–31NIV

  • The Great Commission
"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” -Matthew 28:19-20

  • The Great Summary
“… The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love." - Galatians 5:6NIV

A Common Faith:

We believe in one God, who:

  • Is three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit
  • Is eternal, creator, sovereign, loving, and Lord of the Universe.

     We believe in Jesus Christ:

  • His deity and humanity, God's only Son
  • His virgin birth
  • His life without sin
  • His substitutionary death on the cross for the sins of all people
  • His bodily resurrection from the grave
  • His ascension into heaven
  • His promise to return to judge the world

We believe in the presence and power of the Holy Spirit, who:

  • Comforts the hurting
  • Convicts people of their sin
  • Leads and converts people to belief in Christ
  • Indwells the believer in Christ with God's eternal life
  • Gives gifts for ministry in order to proclaim God's love, grace, and salvation to the world

We believe in the Old and New Testaments of the Bible, and that they are:

  • Inspired by the Holy Spirit
  • Absolutely trustworthy in all matters
  • The only authority for faith and practice in the Christian life

We believe in the resurrection that makes possible to all:

  • Eternal life with God for those who believe in Christ
  • Eternal separation from God for those who do not believe in Christ

     We believe in the church:

  • The regenerate and universal "Body of Christ"
  • The "Priesthood of all Believers"
  • The local autonomous congregation of saints as the physical representation of God's Kingdom on earth
  • The association principle that understands the need to work with other believing congregations for the glory, purposes, and pleasure of God
